Dental lumineers
Dental veneers, also known as porcelain veneers or lumineers, are extremely thin teeth shells used to cover up the front side of a tooth and enhance its appearance. Veneers are placed and bonded to the tooth with the purpose to change its color, shape or length. Veneers are usually recommended or requested by a patient when teeth are discolored. This can happen in consequence of the use of specific drugs, bad habits that lead to yellow teeth (smoking), the consumption of specific food (red wine, coffee, tea i.e.), or fillings that have discolored the tooth in time. Veneers are also applied when teeth are consumed, broken, badly shaped or to close down excessive gaps between teeth.  In any case, veneers come as the perfect solution to fix both the cosmetic aspect of a teeth enhancing a person's smile, as well as solving teeth malfunctions in consequence of irregular shapes that often lead to chewing problems.

When undergoing veneer application at a dental practice, you will have to sit through 2 visits. Lets take a closer look at what happens during the 2 visits.

First of all, your dentist will examine your teeth and ask you what you are looking for exactly. It's important to take in consideration all the patient's wishes and needs to reach optimal results that satisfy both the patient and his search for highly aesthetic results, as well as the dentist and his obligation to preserve your teeth's health under all circumstances. Once your dentist determined a specific course of action and agreed that veneers are the ideal solution in your case, he or she will proceed to remove about 10-30% of your tooth's enamel, in order to make the veneer fit perfectly and become one with your tooth. Once the surface is removed and polished, the dentist will proceed to taking the impression of your tooth which will serve as a model for the veneer construction.

Usually it takes about 10 days to get the veneers from a specialized lab. In the mean time, you can have temporary veneers applied to cover up any dental defects. During the second visit, your dentist will proceed to applying the veneer to your tooth or teeth. The veneer color can be adjusted to fit perfectly your natural tooth's color by shading the cement to be used to bond the veneer. Once bonded to your tooth, final adjustments are carried out to make sure the veneer fits perfectly your tooth shape, without leaving any rough edges.

Veneers come in two materials, resin and porcelain. If resin veneer result in a lower price, porcelain veneers grant extreme resistance and better appearance.

There are a few disadvantages to be aware of before launching yourself to get a brand new smile. Once veneers are applied, the process can't be reversed. Patients who suffer from gum diseases, decayed teeth or bruxism are not advised to get veneers. Also, to make sure you keep your veneers intact in time, habits such as biting nails, chewing on objects or grinding your teeth are to be lost. If you properly take care of your veneers, these can last up to 10 years. However, once worn down, you should have them replaced with new ones.
