All about dental bonding
There are many ways to remodel your smile and change the form of your teeth and among the most popular ones we find teeth bonding. Whether your tooth is slightly cracked, discoloured, of an odd shape or fractured, with teeth bonding you can change its shape in a single dental visit. Teeth bonding consists in applying a composite resin to your teeth surface; the colour of the resin comes in various shades and is chosen in accordance with the colour of your natural teeth.

The process of applying composite resin to your tooth or teeth is fairly simple. There is no need for any special preparation of the tooth which will be treated. Sometimes not even local anaesthesia is necessary; the only cases when you will receive a shot to anaesthetise the area to be treated is if there's a dental infections such as the presence of a cavity to be removed. Once the cavity is removed, bonding is used as a dental fill.

The first thing to do before proceeding to remodel your tooth is to chose the right colour to match it with the rest of your teeth. Once the dentist choses the appropriate colour, he or she will etch the surface of your tooth in order for the bonding material to adhere perfectly and grant long lasting results.

Once the resin is applied, the dentist will proceed to smold it in order to obtain the desired tooth shape. A laser is used to harden the resin and keep it in place. If there are rough edges or uneven tooth surfaces, these will be smoothed to grant the patient  maximum comfort and a perfect tooth shape. To remodel a tooth with bonding it takes about 30 to 40 minutes and the patient will not experience any pain during the procedure.

After the procedure the patient will be advised to take extra care of his or her teeth as resin can be easily stained, just like your natural teeth. Also, avoiding bad habits such as biting on your nails or chewing on hard food such as ice could damage bonded teeth and cause chips, therefore you will be advised to pay special attention in avoiding crunchy and hard foods and maintain your dental hygiene routine on a daily basis. If you do that, bonding will lasts for years before you are required to touch it up or redo the procedure.
